Training for new voluntary Support Persons and Support Families on 10.10.2024

We offer training for new voluntary Support Persons and Support Families on Thursday 10.10.2024 at 5PM-8PM. The training are organized at our office at Yhteiset Lapsemme ry, Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu 15 A 11, Helsinki, Finland.

Our voluntary Support Persons and Support Families are targeted for unaccompanied 12–25-year-old youth who could benefit from long-lasting relationships and support in their integration. Support persons and support families are ordinary people and families with sufficient capacity to meet the needs of an unaccompanied young person. We recruit, train and offer support to volunteers in the Helsinki region and in Central Uusimaa and Western Uusimaa regions.

The training gives you the skills to meet and support children and young people who are in a vulnerable situation and have migrated to Finland. The training is divided into an online part (duration around 4–8 hours) and a face-to-face part at the office (duration around 3 hours). The face-to-face part of the training takes place after the online part.

During the training you can take your time to consider whether the activity is a suitable form of volunteering for you.

Before starting the training we contact those who have registered, in order to get the picture of the volunteer’s expectations and capabilities. We hope that all parents of coming support family will participate in the training. With the consent of the volunteer, their extracts from the criminal records and the social service’s customer register will be checked.

Recreational events, employees’ support, professional guidance and further training are organized regularly to support the wellbeing of volunteers, children and young people.

Please note that as most children and young people wish to practice their Finnish skills in the support relationship, at least some Finnish language skills (approximately level A2-B1) and willingness to practice together are required of a support person or at least one adult of a support family. However, all other common languages that you may have with the child or young person, can be used.
